Straight At You

Serengeti, Tanzania

The story

Early morning, the light just warm enough to catch the mane. Two males came across the plain together, brothers. Not hunting, not searching, simply going somewhere.

They walked straight at our vehicle and did not give it a metre. To them it was neither obstacle nor threat, just something that happened to be in the way. All I had to do was sit still and let the moment come to me.

Later that morning we saw where they were headed: their pride, lionesses and cubs, further out in the grass. That is the part this frame does not show, and the part that completes it for me. This is not a lion posing. This is a lion on his way somewhere.
