Dust and Motion

The same morning as Asleep on Stone, the same crater floor. A large group of zebra and wildebeest suddenly got moving and ran past us. It looked like the migration, but it cannot be. The animals in the Ngorongoro crater do not migrate: there is water and grass all year round, so they stay where they are.

Why they were running I am not certain. A little later we watched a large group of hyenas going after buffalo. That could well have been it.

This is a deliberate pan: moving with the group while the shutter is open. It holds the animals still and smears everything around them into dust and streak. Black and white makes that the subject. No plain any more, no sky, only movement.
