Straight At You
Serengeti, Tanzania
Endless plains, African skies, rock and grass as far as the eye can see.
The first thing you notice in East and Southern Africa is not an animal. It is the space. Plains running on until they disappear into the heat, skies without a single cloud, rock and grass as far as you can see.
In all that space an animal is small. That may feel wrong for a photograph, but it is exactly right. An animal filling the frame tells you how big it is. An animal with emptiness around it tells you where it lives.
These are the ones that hang best large. Space needs space.
